The Vancouver Film Scene

Why the Vancouver film industry is booming.

You don't have to move to New York or LA to have a vibrant film career. Vancouver, BC has also become a power player in the film and television industries.

Vancouver hasn't always been the hub of film production and postproduction that it is today. Nevertheless, the Vancouver film industry dates back to 1913, and over the years, it's been growing.

In 1978, the film and television industries spent roughly $12 million in Vancouver. By 2000, that figure rose to $1.18 billion. With that kind of growth, it's not surprising that Vancouver is currently the third largest film industry site in North America.

As a center for both filming and postproduction, the Vancouver film industry has many advantages to offer. There are state-of-the-art facilities, a workforce of about 35,000 people and, because the U.S. dollar stretches farther in Canada, economic benefits to U.S.-based film studios.
