Fine Arts Bachelor's Degrees: BA vs. BFA

All undergraduate college degrees require some courses in liberal arts (or general studies). The Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) are no exception.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

A BFA requires that approximately 2/3 of the course work focus on the creation and study of visual arts and 1/3 of the coursework focus on liberal arts (history, literature, psychology, etc).

Bachelor of Arts (BA)

For a BA, the course work ratios are flipped, with a 2/3 focus on liberal arts and 1/3 focus on visual arts. It's important to note that this ratio holds true across all establishments of higher learning. The type of degree, not the type of institution, determines the amount of visual arts to liberal arts studied.
